Mish Mash Challenge: Triangles (Oh! The Fail!)

Hello and welcome to Wednesday!  It's Mish Mash Challenge day, of course, and I have to tell you that my mani this week holds quite a bit of fail.  The color didn't really work for me and neither did my technique :(  I could have redone it, but I'm short on time this week and sometimes I like to show you guys a mistake or two, just to bring myself back down to earth lol  Alright, on to the fail...er...manicure!

So what I was trying to do was recreate my Tiers of Teeny, Tiny Triangles manicure from the ABC Challenge.  It's one of my favorite manicures I've ever done, and I though it might be pretty in fall colors.  It might be, but not in these fall colors lol  I started with the For Sweater or Worse swatch I wore yesterday as a base.  Then, I painted some scotch tape with Sation's Dating the Duke and Sinful Colors Out of Bounds.  After the polish dried, I cut strips of triangle shapes with pinking shears.  I placed the strips on my nails, trimmed the edges, and topped everything with Seche Vite.

As I said before, this color combo just does not work for me!  I thought there was no way to make FSOW look bad but this seemed to bring out a muddy brownish tone to it...which made me sad.   Then my edges...oh, the horror!  For some reason, my trimming scissors stuck to the tape and pulled the polish out of whack at the edges of my nails, so everything ended up bumpy.  To add insult to injury, I laid on my SV too thickly and got beaucoup de bubbles!  So much sad *sigh*.  Oh well, we win some, we lose some!

Please take some time to look over the other Mish Mashers' manis for this week.  I am quite sure they came up with much more creative and more expertly executed work than I did lol  You can find them via the thumbnails below!  Thanks so much for reading!

Geometric Manicure

Howdy, everyone!  I have a quick manicure for you all today.  I had limited access to polish while I was back in Kansas this weekend, but my flight yesterday was cancelled and I had an extra night with nothing to do, so I decided to give it a go with what I had. (I did make it back to Chicago today, in case you were wondering)  As usual when I take a trip home, I had to run out to Walmart to grab a couple of things.  We don't really have Walmarts in Chicago, so I never get a chance to buy any Pure Ice or NYC polishes unless I'm home.  I admit, I did take an unnecessary turn around the cosmetic department while I was there and I picked up a few things.  Here's what I did with a couple of them!

I started here with 3 coats of NYC 153 Midtown Mimosa, a bright yellow jelly.  Then, I used blue painter's tape (thanks to my stepmom, Sherrie!) to tape off some elongated triangle shapes.  I used NYC 152 Tudor City Teal to fill in the triangles.  TCT is a pretty turquoise color, I'm sure it's supposed to be a creme, but it does seem more like a jelly to me.  In any case, you can tell it's sheer because the color looks more green here due to the yellow showing through.  It doesn't bother me, I enjoy happy surprises like that.

I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out, even though my boyfriend hates it lol  It's hard to  get those triangles centered with tape and I think I did a pretty good job, darnit!  What do you guys think?

Keep an eye out for my next ABC Challenge post which should be coming up shortly.  As always, thanks for reading!

Geometric Gems

Hello!  We are fast approaching mid-week and I, for one, cannot wait for the weekend.  I managed to snag Monday AND Tuesday off (those of you who know me know that two days in a row off is rare for me) after working for 21 days straight.  I'm pooped!  It'll be nice to have a bit of a break.  What's everyone doing for Memorial Day?  I'm certain I'll manage to get a manicure or two in while I'm relaxing ;)

Speaking of that, after much frustration with my nails last night (which caused the lack of post-age), I've come up with something today that I really like!  Take a look.

I started with two coats of China Glaze in Secret Peri-wink-le, which is a lovely version of that hue; a blue/grey/lavender creme.  After that, I taped off narrow triangles with the points ending at the tips of my nails.  Don't judge, but the triangles are far from perfect.  It's difficult to find the center of your nail at the tip and then center the base of the triangle at the base of the nail...but overall, I think I did alright.  I filled in the triangles with another China Glaze in First Mate, a deep navy blue creme.  After a coat of Seche Vite, I topped this look off with some little blue "gems" that I found at Dollar Tree.  I found this multi-pack of sparklies for $1, so expect to see more of them in the future!  I love the way the light shines through the little jewel to pick up the bright blue color.  I'll try to get a picture in the sun tomorrow to show that a little better.

That's all I've got for this evening.  I hope everyone has a great week and thanks for stopping by!
