Max Factor Fantasy Fire

Hello, everyone.  It's been a rough few weeks for myself and my friends and so I haven't been posting regularly.  I haven't even been doing my nails.  One of my favorite people in the world passed away two weeks ago and I miss her terribly.  It was a sudden and unexpected thing and it seems very unfair.   Shannon was one of my biggest blog fans and I'll miss her support immeasurably, here as well as in every other aspect of my life.  I'm not going to go on and on about it here, because it's just not the place for it, but it felt wrong to continue on here as if nothing had happened.  It's been hard to be creative, but I know she wouldn't want me to stop doing something I love so much.

My nails look pretty terrible cuz I just haven't been taking care of them.  I broke almost every single one in the last 2 weeks and then got a "manicure" at a salon over the weekend.  I use the quotes because she really kind of messed up my nails and the color smudged within 5 minutes of leaving the shop.  Bleh, that's what I get for letting some one else touch 'em!

A few weeks ago, I scraped some pennies together and bid on eBay for a particular polish I HAD to have for my stash.  I won the auction but hadn't gotten around to swatching it yet. Here's what I came up with:

...more after the jump...

Max Factor's Fantasy Fire is a gorgeous purple multichrome with a red/gold/green shimmer.  FF is pretty famous and sought after for being a Clarins 230 dupe.  The Clarins is super expensive and discontinued so it's almost impossible to snag a bottle.  Both of these polishes are often given the nickname of "Unicorn Pee" because they're just so lovely.  I'm not sure why the urine of a mythical beast is assumed to be pretty, but whatever!  Here I've used 3 thin coats of FF over 2 coats of a no-name O.P.I. mini polish.  The O.P.I. is a lavender shimmer...I thought it would bounce back through the layers of FF to create a nice depth (there's my B.F.A. rearing its head!).  FF surely lives up to all the hype and I'm thrilled to have this polish in my collection!  I did decide to add 2 thin coats of KleanColor's Chunky Holo Black over top of this, to add even more dimension.  I love this combination, it looks so lovely!

Here's a close up to show you the shapes of the KleanColor holo glitter and the shimmer of FF:

I seriously could not stop staring at my nails all day today.  I hope some of you folks are still out there and will continue to read.  I'll do my best to get back into posting regularly again, although I have a couple of trips coming up and holiday craziness as well.  But I do have some fun manicures planned so I hope you'll stop by and say hi!

Thanks so much for reading!
