KBShimmer's Totally Tubular

I'd like to extend a big "hello" to all my new readers (and a fond "howdy" to those of you who've been in it for the long haul!).  I do hope you'll stick around for awhile!  To that end, I do have a bit of bribery to lure you in.  Because of the great response to my Birthdanniversary Giveaway , Over the Top Coat now has more than 100 followers on Blogger...this means I'll be doing another giveaway!  I'm hoping to have it organized by the end of the month, so if you don't win a prize in my current giveaway (accepting entries through July 18th), stick around to see what goodies I'll throw your way in a couple of weeks!

Ok, ok, on to the polish!  KBShimmer is a fantastic indie brand that I'm sure many of you are familiar with.  I don't own too many of them (too many lovelies, too little budget), but I couldn't resist snagging a mini bottle of Totally Tubular when I saw it in the sale section of her website.  I'm a sucker for a good deal...and dots.  Always the dots!

Totally Tubular is a beautiful turquoise-y teal crelly base with fuschia, aqua, and royal blue dots and micro glitter. The color combination here is superb.  I could not stop staring at my nails all day!  The blue in this polish is so perfectly summer!

I actually layered 2 coats of Totally Tubular over 2 coats of China Glaze Sunday Funday for this manicure, mostly because I was too lazy to take off a previous mani and didn't want it to show through.  I'm certain TT would build up nicely on its own; the crelly was a nice consistency, not too sheer and not too thick.  Application overall was a dream...I'm a bit sad that I decided on the mini instead of the full size lol

Do you guys own any KBShimmer polishes?  What do you think of them?

Thanks so much for reading!

Different Dimension's Money

Hiya, folks!  How's your day?  It's been pretty good for me.  It's amazing how a really good, hard work day can make you feel accomplished...especially when it means you get a 3-day weekend!  Yep, today turned out to be my Friday, yay!

Anyway, I have a fun polish to show you!  Different Dimension had a sale a couple of weeks ago to celebrate her impending (and, I'm positive, much deserved) vacation.  I couldn't resist grabbing a few polishes, so here's a swatch of one of the ones I picked up!

Meet Money.  Money is part of DD's Echoes collection, inspired by Pink Floyd songs.  I pretty much love everything in the collection and once I saw Money's dots, I knew she would be mine!  A white crelly chock full of holographic squares, gold and neon green hexes, small teal dots, and large teal, black AND holographic dots, this beauty made my heart go pitter-pat at first glance.

Look at all that dotty goodness!  I love the color combination and the formula was flawless.  Missi Barry, DD's maker, warns that the large dots might give some difficulty but I had no issues at all.  I turned the bottle upside down between coats and those larger dots just jumped right to the brush and from there to my nails.  I used 3-4 coats here, but you could definitely wear it over a white base for a faster payoff.  I love the depth in these types of polishes, so I'm usually happy to work up the opacity.

If you get a chance, you should definitely give Different Dimension polishes a try.  I've loved everything I've tried so far!

Turq-ish Delight from Hit Polish

Hiya, folks!  Having a good weekend?  It's chilly and rainy here in Chicago...again.  I'm a little tired of the dreariness lately.  Fortunately, all my over spending at Memorial Day means that nail mail is at an all time high!  I'll have plenty of new pretties to show you all for the next few weeks, yay!

I'm starting here with a pretty crelly glitter from Hit Polish (formerly D&R Apothecary) called Turq-ish Delight.

TD is a smoky turquoise crelly base with varied bright orange hexes, fuchsia and teal dots, and holographic micro glitter throughout.  The turquoise base in this polish is very interesting, ranging from a bright, true turquoise in certain light to a deeper, smoky blue in others.  The glitters are amazing!  The hot orange contrasts so well with the turquoise and you all know how much I dig the dots.

The formula was good, opaque in 2-3 coats (I'm wearing 3 here).  I did have a little trouble getting the larger hexes out of the bottle, but that's to be expected.  I was impatient and didn't turn my bottle upside before application, which usually solves that issue.  In any case, I love this polish so much, I just don't care lol  To make the orange pop even more, after my final coat had dried a bit, I used a small nail art brush and a little acetone to brush over top of the large hexes.  This cleaned off the light layer of turquoise base and just let the orange shine through a little more.  As with most crelly glitters, there was a little bumpiness without a top coat so, I used two coats of Seche Vite to smooth things out a bit.

All in all, this is a gorgeous polish and I can't wait to try out the other polishes I snagged from Hit Polish, including the free mini they sent with my order as a "thank you" for helping them reach 10,000 sales.  I love getting free polish, especially when it's unexpected!  If Hit Polish keeps making gorgeous polishes like Turq-ish Delight, I imagine their sales won't stop at 10K ;)

Have you tried Hit Polish?  What did you think?

Daring Digits: Holy Fire & Blueberry Blues

Howdy, everyone!  Last day of the weekend, but to be honest, it hasn't been a great one for me (with the exception of sushi and Blizzards last night) so I'm kind of ready for the work week to start.  I have a couple of swatches to show from an indie brand I first heard about via Kimber from Kimber's Laquer Korner.   Daring Digits is an indie brand produces in Albuquerque, NM by a lovely young lady named Ashley.  These two polishes were part of my first order with DD and I'm pretty darn impressed!  On to the swatches!

First up is Blueberry Blues, a white crelly base with bright blue hexes and little tiny glitters in the same shade.

BB is such a great polish, I absolutely love everything about it!  The formula is wonderful.  I've actually used 5 coats for this swatch to get the opacity I wanted, as it's very sheer.  That said, you could easily layer a couple of coats over a white base if you wanted to.

Personally, I love the depth the glitter gives to these crellies with a lot of coats.  There was no balding or dragging, I didn't have to dig for the glitter and it dried fairly quickly.  Altogether, I give it 5 stars!

Next up, we have my favorite of polishes I ordered.  Kimber had swatched this a few weeks ago and I knew I had to have it!

Holy Fire contains copper hexes and flakes in a milky peach crelly base.  Ashley actually has it described as a white base, but my bottle looks quite peachy (and I love it!) so that's what I'm going with.

This is another where I used 5 coats because the depth of DD's polishes is so fantastic!  HF is aptly named, as my nails looked like they were lit from within!  Again, no problems with application or dry time.

If you're interested in Daring Digits, you can currently order them via Big Cartel, though I urge you to follow Ashley's blog or facebook page for updates.  As she works a full-time job as well as turning out her polish as fast as she can, Ashley is changing things up a bit to make her life a little less stressful (more power to you, girl!). So, you may want to order quickly as many of her current collection will be unavailable after she starts her restock schedule.  Additionally, she's currently running a sale; most of her polishes are only $6.50!  Get 'em while they're hot!
