Sponge Manicure with O.P.I. Spotted
Hellooo! Upon walking in the door this evening from work, I discovered a wonderful thing. My package from Zulily had arrived! What was in this wondrous package you ask? Only one of my all-time lemmings...O.P.I. Black Spotted! Originally released as an exclusive for France Sephora as part of the Spiderman Collection, Black Spotted has started to trickle over to the U.S. Zulily had an O.P.I. special a few weeks ago of 2-packs of polish and 2 of these sets included the elusive Black Spotted. I was able to snag the set which also included Funky Dunkey (but that's for a later post). The happy dance that ensued was epic :)
Anyway, on to my manicure! I started with a simple sponge mani, which turned out to be quite pretty so I snapped a few shots of it before applying Black Spotted.
I applied 2 coats of butter London's Fiver and then sponged on random patches of Zoya's Rockly, Ciate's Pepperminty, and Sation's Dating the Duke. All of these polishes are in the mint green to blue family. Initially, I was trying for a sort of turquoise stone effect. Not sure if I achieved that, but I'll let you guys decide.
This sponging was a neat effect on its own and it's pretty simple to do. Even though I liked it by itself, I just couldn't wait to try out my new precious!
Black Spotted is really pretty cool. I know everyone has seen pics of it by now, but it's such an interesting look! It reminds me of oil on water, the way it separates and creates a cobwebby effect.
The formula is a little finicky. Your base coat needs to be completely dry and you'll want to apply a very thin layer of Black Spotted. The thicker your application, the less of your base polish you'll be able to see. My pinky was the first nail I did and you can see in the above photo that it's the most coated compared to my other nails. Both looks can be nifty, but I like a little more of the base to show through.
Did anyone else score on Zulily's O.P.I. special? If you're interested in trying Zulily, feel free to use my referral link to sign up! They are mostly a kids/mommy sort of a store, but it's worth it to have an account when gems like this come along!
Thanks so much for reading!
Didn't check my mail today...I hope my package is in there! Your mani looks awesome! and thanks again for the heads up on sale day.
ReplyDeleteHow did you get your package so quickly? I placed an order at the same time and have not heard anything! Did you get a confirmation email or some sort of shipping notice from Zulily?
ReplyDeleteI did get a shipping notice from them...about 3 days AFTER I'd already received the polish. I'm not sure what the deal is with these, I know a couple of people who've received theirs and some haven't. You might try to call zulily to see what the hold up is? I didn't do anything special when I ordered, so I'm not sure how I got mine so quickly.
DeleteI called and they said they haven't heard back from the manufacturer yet (it's been 2-3 weeks already!) Mine were supposed to ship August 29th.
DeleteThat's terrible! It sounds to me like the underestimated how many orders they were going to take for those sets. It's never wise to underestimate the nail polish community! I hope you get yours soon!
DeleteI received mine the other day, but I was out of town. I can't wait to play with it tomorrow!!!
